Hi, As i too have long straight hair and believe me go for a U cut ( no deep U) and put a bucle rather than a banana clip or rubber band as when you but a bukle without leaving it loose it appears step and also gives a wavvy look.

First, find out your face frame (oval, square, heart, pear, ect...)

Then find some pictures in magazines or print them out from the internet that suit your face frame, and take them to your hair dresser, and ask him/her which they think best suites you, (its always good to get a second opinion)
